As I wrote in a previous post, our kids wake us up when the sun comes out, which usually involves Sarah standing up in her baby-cot with a big smile, making bird-like noises. Today, this happened at 6:54, later as ever (time lag excluded). Yeah, 7:00 is near and may be reached before the end of the journey!

Avec un peu de retard (l’excursion a eu lieu le 4 mai et nous sommes le 7…mais on s’habitue vite et bien au rythme de vacances), voici le compte rendu de votre cadeau (l’équipe du bureau de Francfort, des amis…) : l’excursion au phare amédée. L’ilot se situe à environ 45 minutes de bateau de Noumea. Si la traversée en mer n’a rien de spectaculaire, l’ilot en soi est lui très beau…et les habitants sous marins ont pleinement satisfait les touristes (un peu) blasés que nous sommes devenus en matière de vision sous marine ;-). Eh oui, on a encore découvert de nouveaux (énormes) poissons grace à vous ! Dommage que mon père n’était pas du voyage, il s’en serait donné à cœur joie ! Sans exagération sudiste aucune, je pense que certains d’entre eux avoisinaient facile les 10 kilos… Sans compter les tortues, les poissons pilotes, un requin (à pointe blanche, pour varier un peu)
Mit etwas Verspätung (wir waren am 4.5. dort und ich schreibe erst am 7.5., aber man gewöhnt sich schnell an dem Rhythmus des Urlaubs), kommt hier der Tagesbericht von eurem Geschenk (gemeint ist das Team von Atout France aus Frankfurt und Freunde): Der Ausflug auf dem Ilot Amédée. Der etwa 45 Minuten von Noumea entfernte ilot ist einfach wunderschön. Wir haben dort neue Fischsorten entdeckt (eine Herausforderung, da wir nach 4 Wochen Polynesien etwas verwöhnt sind): Riesenfische, die mein Vater wahrscheinlich sehr gern gefangen hätte 😉
…und Wasserschildkröten, Pilotfische, ein Hai (mit weißer Spitze, zur Abwechslung).

On our journey, we met a lot of people who were etremely
nice with us. But we were especially overwhelmed by the generosity of some: In Western Auckland, an elderly couple at the table next to ours bought plush sheep for both of our kids (“I have been to NZ”). On Mataiva, we met “Marseille and Versailles”, Karine posted a big “thank you” earlier. On Fakarava, we shared the table with Estelle. Edmond and Louise, living on Nouméa. When we came to Nouméa, not only did they invite us for dinner, but they also took us on their boat for a day trip to “Ilot Maître” (see photos).

We have arrived in New Caledonia, the last long part of our journey. First impressions: It looks much dryer, lots of open space, we saw cattle… a bit of wild west feel. Noumea, on the other hand, seems more modern and developed than Papeete. We are curious to discover the country. First step will probably be the town, the islets around, and the lagoon.
