On our journey, we met a lot of people who were etremely

nice with us. But we were especially overwhelmed by the generosity of some: In Western Auckland, an elderly couple at the table next to ours bought plush sheep for both of our kids (“I have been to NZ”). On Mataiva, we met “Marseille and Versailles”, Karine posted a big “thank you” earlier. On Fakarava, we shared the table with Estelle. Edmond and Louise, living on Nouméa. When we came to Nouméa, not only did they invite us for dinner, but they also took us on their boat for a day trip to “Ilot Maître” (see photos).

We have arrived in New Caledonia, the last long part of our journey. First impressions: It looks much dryer, lots of open space, we saw cattle… a bit of wild west feel. Noumea, on the other hand, seems more modern and developed than Papeete. We are curious to discover the country. First step will probably be the town, the islets around, and the lagoon.

Als wir unsere Reise vorbereitet haben, war die Idee, dass wir uns zum Abschluss der Polynesien-Etappe ein bißchen Luxus gönnen in Form eines Overwater Bungalows, d.h. auf Stelzen mit einem Glasfenster im Boden, um die Fische beobachten zu können. Als wir gestern unsere Koffer packten, um zu unserem Overwater Bungalow umzuziehen, fragten wir uns, ob es wirklich noch der Kick sein würde – nach Duzenden bunten Fischen, die wir in den letzten Wochen beim Schnorcheln, aber auch einfach am Strand oder von kleinen Stegen am Wasser gesehen hatten. In unserem Bungalow angekommen, ist uns ein weiteres Luxus-Feature aufgefallen, das wir vorher nicht bedacht hatten: Die Abwesenheit von Hühnern! Hühner laufen ansonsten in Polynesien überall herum. Überall bedeutet: Selbst am Pool von 4-Sterne-Restaurants… aber nicht vor Overwater-Bungalows. Es war also das erste mal seit etwa zwei Wochen, dass wir nicht von lauthals krähenden Hähnen geweckt wurden. So konnten wir etwa eine halbe Stunde länger schlafen, denn wie neulich gebloggt … unsere Kinder wachen mit den ersten Sonnenstrahlen auf…
