Almost six weeks since we left home! And this is the first time we have some spare minutes to write a longer text on the Blog. Sarah is asleep, and Basti has gone fishing. We have left the civilization well behind: Mataiva is a small island (precisely: an atoll), with only 250 inhabitants. Beer is currently finished on the island, and the last can of Coke was sold the day before yesterday. Internet has been cut for the entire island since we have arrived, so we will only be able to post this once we are back.
Not gone, though, are the fish. We have seen Rays every day since we are here, and many, many smaller colourful fish – you just have to look into the water. With a mask, it is like swimming in a giant aquarium. Never seen so many crabs either! The lagoon with all those palms and its 50 shades of turquoise waters is just so beautiful I am tempted to take a photo every 5 minutes.
While Basti enjoyed the caravan in Australia a lot, here he (finally) made friends, which gives us parents a break. His French gets better each day, but the French kids still do not always understand his mix of French with an “accent du midi” and sentences structured as they would be in German.
