On our way from Frankfurt to Sydney, we had planned a couple of days in Bangkok. Just before our departure, media reported about more and more clashes between the “red shirt” government and the “yellow short” opposition. On short notice, we decided to avoid Bangkok and booked a Transfer from the Airport to one of the nearest beaches, Cha Am. We spend some relaxing days at stylish “Hotel de la Paix”. As expected, politics were far, far away.
For the way back, we had again booked our flights with a break. Alas, the military coup happened a couple of days before our flight from Brisbane to Bangkok, and each day, the new military rulers imposed new restrictions on Bangkok life. Again, we changed our plans – instead of spending a couple of days in Bangkok, we stayed just a couple of hours – just enough to have some authentic Thai Food at the Airport. (Of course, the restrictions on Bangkok nightlife were not our Problem – but during the trip, Basti had developed a nasty Habit of not doing something unless we explained in detail what happens before … and we thought this was less than perfect in a revolution environment).
